The African American Art and Culture Complex (AAACC) presents a captivating celebration of Black creativity and culture at the Season of Black Art showcase in San Francisco from October 2023 through February 2024.

This extraordinary event will feature hundreds of talented Black artists and collectives, presenting a diverse array of artistic expressions. Experience thought-provoking speaker series, interactive presentations, and inspiring performances. 

The Season of Black Art celebrates CommUNITY!...Our Beautiful Blackness, Vibrance, Opulence, and Resilience. The Season of Black Art celebrates the Re-Opening of the African American Art and Culture Complex and the incredible DreamKeepers.

The AAACC incubated cohorts of artists and entrepreneurs. Now is their moment to shine during the new art series, The Season of Black Art (SOBA), to be held from October through February 2024.

The Season of Black Art Celebrates the over 100 artists participating in the African American Art and Culture Complex’s Enterprising Creatives Cohort Initiative. Join us in celebrating the accomplished artists of today and the future @ the African American Art and Culture Complex for the launch of the Season of Black Art on October 29, 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.

The African American Arts and Cultural Complex is the home from which over 200 emerging and unsung artists will launch a new arts series, “The Season of Black Art,” Sunday October 29th  through February 2024.

The African American Arts and Cultural Complex is co-directed by sisters Melorra Green and Melonie Green, affectionately known as “The Twins.”

“The Season of Black Art,” is directed by San Francisco native, Rodney Earl Jackson, who co-founded the award-winning production company, SFBATCO, San Francisco Bay Area Theater Company, known for creating new art and cultural collaborations like “The New Roots Theater Festival, founded by Jackson.

The purpose of the series is to give an elevated platform to uplift unsung artists whose art otherwise would have been overlooked had it not been for Mayor London Breed’s visionary creation of the Dream Keepers Initiative.

Artists who have been among the cohort of incubated individuals and grassroots arts organizations at the AAACC will present their art to the Black community, San Francisco and the world during the five-month series to further expand their reach and artistic prowess. 

“The Season of Black Art” serves as an affirmation of the continuum of service AAACC has meant to the arts world and as signification of its emergence from the impact of COVID-19 that nearly decimated the arts world-wide.

The arts have a major impact on the economy in San Francisco and worldwide; so, uplifting the emerging artists of the AAACC cohort to survive COVID and its aftermath, is making for a stronger community of artists and a stronger economy. 

The rising tide of the Dream Keepers Initiative is uplifting all of the beneficiaries to a stronger position and sustainability. 

The launch of the “The Season of Black Art” is Sunday, October 29th and is free to all.  Everyone is invited to attend.  Registration is required to accommodate seating and the free to the public, food catered by Dixson Delights.

The launch of “The Season of Black Art” kicks off the monthly arts presentations with Black Literature, Narratives & Business. 

The afternoon of The Season of Black Art,” from 1 p.m.- 5 p.m. at AAACC, 762 Fulton Avenue San Francisco is where the public can expect presentations from writers, poets, preachers, new and established business owners, and political leaders. Phelica Jones, Reverend Townsend, Shante Saulsberry, Rico Storm, Lewis Joan, Alie Jones and the Bay Area’s own STUNNAMAN02 will be featured. 

Upcoming monthly presentations include celebrations of Black Music, November 18, 2023; Black Theater and Film, December 9, 2023 and Black Dance, January 13, 2024 culminating with The State of Black Art Symposium, February 10th, 2024.
